Detroit History

Detroit has a rich and fascinating
history. The city was founded in 1701
when French Explorer Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac
landed in what is now the Civic Center area.
Despite the great fire of 1805 that destroyed nearly all of Detroit’s
historic sites and the more recent late 20th Century economic
hardships, historical significance can be found in every corner of the city. |
