Detroit Casinos
Overview
In 1996, Michigan voters
approved operation of three casinos in the City of Detroit. After a lengthy review process, the City
selected the Motor
City, MGM Grand
Detroit, and Greektown casinos from a pool of
applicants that included Donald Trump and other notables. The casinos were allowed to build temporary
gaming facilities for use until permanent casinos were completed. Construction of these new facilities was
recently completed and the result is three spectacular hotel / casino resort
complexes offering world-class accommodations, gaming, live entertainment,
clubs, and cuisine. We'll take you on
a tour of all three and even throw in a visit to Caesars Windsor Casino across
the border in Windsor
for good measure!

Motor City Casino [A]
2901 Grand River Avenue
Website
The 17-story, 400-room Motor
City Casino is the only locally owned casino and as such, has a distinct
flair all its own. Built with the help
of noted automobile designer Chip Foose, the
hotel's interior décor complements the Post World War II "Future
Retro" design theme of the Motor
City's 100,000 square
foot casino space, paying tribute to Detroit
and America's
love affair with the automobile. The
hotel offers luxurious accommodations and premium in-room amenities, with
upper level guests enjoying spacious living areas and panoramic views of the
city. A 1,500-seat theater,
outstanding dining, and sleek clubs and lounges round out the
experience. Motor City Casino is
located off the John C. Lodge Freeway (M-10) about a mile north and west of
the immediate Downtown area.

MGM Grand Detroit [B]
1777 3rd Street
Website
The $800 million MGM Grand
Detroit was the first of the permanent casinos to open its doors, doing so
with huge fanfare that included local, national, and international
celebrities. The celebration was for
good reason. Detroit was welcoming its first Las Vegas resort-style
hotel / casino, an art-deco-inspired complex that includes a 17-story,
400-room hotel, 100,000 square feet of gaming space, meeting rooms,
entertainment venue, five restaurants and five lounges, full-service spa and
5,000-car garage. MGM Grand Detroit has become a
focal point of Detroit's
bold foray into the gaming industry.
The casino is located off the
John C. Lodge freeway (M-10) on the west side of the downtown area.

Greektown
Casino-Hotel [C]
555 East Lafayette Avenue
Website
As its name suggests, the
city's third major gambling facility is located in the heart of action-packed
Greektown. Now patrons can enjoy not only the 100,000
square feet of gaming space, but a beautiful contemporary 30 story, 400-room
hotel tower with luminescent blue glass windows, a dazzling lobby, and
luxurious accommodations. Complete
with fine dining and live entertainment, the Greektown
Casino-Hotel is the perfect complement to the one of the city's great
entertainment districts. Free
self-parking is available in one of the structures located adjacent to the
casino. The casino also boasts its own
People Mover connection on Level 3,
making it a convenient and accessible destination.

Caesars
Windsor [D]
377 Riverside Drive East,
Windsor, Ontario, Canada
Website
Our Canadian neighbors
across the river actually beat Detroit
to the gambling punch with the opening of Casino Windsor in 1994. The complex was re-branded Caesars Windsor
following a $400 million expansion that added a second hotel tower,
5,000-seat entertainment center, 100,000 square foot convention center, new
bars, cafes and restaurants, and an upgraded gaming area that includes Canada's
first licensed sports book. All of
this and more to accommodate the six million visitors Caesars Windsor
attracts annually.
